This week I have been experimenting with the wi-fi networking in the Nokia N95, specifically to make cheap phone calls.
- Install a wi-fi network at home and at work. In my case I have an old Belkin Access Point at home which gives me Internet access over the iiNet ADSL2 network. For work I bought a Linksys PMCIA wi-fi card for my Notebook which is configured as an ad hoc wi-fi network bridged to the LAN with Internet Connection Sharing turned on. Works a treat.
- Download fring (google it). I chose it because it connects to several VOIP services that I use: Skype & SIP as well as MSN Messenger and Google Talk. And of course fring too. I have an iiNet VOIP number and it was very simple to configure.
- When at home or at work or when in range of any usable wi-fi network I can now make free calls over Skype and 10 cent calls to landlines using my iiNet number. And receive calls on the one handset!
I am on the train home hence light on details but will post instructions later.
